23. Taman Negara
On saturday (xmas eve) me & Wendy decided to try to find an ananka/jack fruit as a man had given me some the day before & it was really really nice. We wandered round the village for a while & then found a tree. Jack fruits are very spikey & roughly half the size of me & v.heavy. I couldn't reach very well but Wendy managed & twisted it off but it blammed her in the face & she split her lip & bit her tongue. The locals were cheering at us as we carried it back to the hostel & we thought perhaps we were going to get in trouble. It took about an hour hacking at it & bashing it against rocks to open it, & when we did it wasn't ripe & inedible & covered us in chewing gum stuff that wouldn't come off whatever we did & so was generally v.disappointing.
Then me & Wendy & Trevor went into the jungle & went on a really long trek which was lovely until it started pouring down & we were falling in the mud & all these leeches came & got our legs, they were so so so disgusting, they kept getting my ankles & I thought I might puke it looked so gross. Me & Wendy had nightmares that they had got up our bums, if they did they will still be there.
When we got back we went to one of the cafes. They are all floating ones on the river, but because it had been raining so heavily the river was bloated & flowing really fast & the ropes snapped & the whole resturant was dragged down stream.
On Christmas day me & Wendy went to the resort over the river & had all you can eat buffet. Because Teman Negara is all muslim there is no alcohol, as a substitute Wendy & I each drank 8 cups of treacle-like coffee with condensed milk & shaking & giggling uncontrollably all evening. One of the bar owners took me & Wendy & Trevor & Dan to a karyoke shack where Malaysian men all sit in silence waiting their turn to warble ballads & drinking tea (with condensed milk), none of them clap or laugh, it is very somber. Alias (the bar man) forced Wendy to get up & sing I am sailing with him.
Now we are in the Cameron highlands, I'm going to find a beach soon
