18. Salta - Leaving SA
We spent about ten days in BA, I was really glad to leave by the end. We went to Mendosa, it was the hottest place I've ever been to for most of the time that we were there. On the first night we went out to this electronic rave thing in the park/woods, but then we didn't do much for a few days because we checked in to this v.relaxed but sociable hostel with a pool & noone really did anything during the day time, to be honest it was just far too hot to leave the pool side. Me & Chloe did go to see a film called Goal, set in Newcastle & it made us feel v.homesick & nostalgic. I went to the gym with a canadian girl & her unkle, they were travelling together & were both a bit wierd, but travelling with your unkle/niece is obviously wierd in the first place so it wasn't a surprise.
On our last day there, me & Chloe went paragliding. The hill that we launched from was not high up like the one that I did hangliding from, but you can climb in the air with a paraglider so it wasn't necessary to start off that high. It also wasn't scary like hangliding, there was no throwing yourself from a cliff, but it was a lot more sick-inducing, which is why I ended up vomiting three times in mid air, 1000 metres up, over people's houses & pools, & it is quite likely that the man I was strapped to got splatted, probably in the face. When we landed I lay on the floor for a while & the jeep driver poured water all over me, which I did not appreciate at all, but I couldn't move to pound him. We got back to the hostel & I puked all over the bathroom for a very long time, then went to sleep, then got up & went to an all you can eat buffet.
We met up with two guys that we met in BA, Andy & Ben, & got a minibus to Santiago with them. The journey was across the Argentinian/Chilen border & through the mountains & looked quite a lot like Norway & was actually far more impressive than any of the tours we've been on, v.v.pretty.
Now we are in Santiago, our flight is tomorrow, Andy just left to get his flight back to Britain, & in a silly way I am actually quite envious. I am really really dreading the plane ride. Ben is getting a flight to New Z today, so he's going to wait 24hours for us in Auckland.
